The Building-Block Concept

The pages in CMSLAURIN consist of building-blocks.

These building-blocks are:

  • Templates
  • Navigation
  • Elements

Thanks to the building-block concept of the content templates and elements, layouts with any desired degree of complexity can readily be generated.

All of the contents of a Web site are represented by elements and can be edited without needing to know anything about HTML.

The navigation to each page is automatically generated.

The templates determine the Web design and page layout. They are set up by HTML programmers, who can also alter them if and when alterations are needed.

Templates define the layout of a page. The layout is the arrangement of the graphics, navigation, and actual contents.

Page templates define the general pattern of the entire page. This fixed pattern determines the arrangement of constant graphic elements (e.g. the placement of a company’s logo), and the depictions of the navigation and content areas.

Content templates can structure the content area of the pages. For example, they can determine whether or not the contents should be laid out in more than one column.

CMSLAURIN’s elements represent the actual contents.

Various types of elements are intended for various types of contents.

These element types make it possible to edit corresponding contents in CMSLAURIN.
